Re: chesspoker

El primer link del torneo que has puesto es un torneo de ajedrez 100% standard.

El vídeo es de una simultaneas de una piba que se va a dejar la espalda :D, pero convertirlo en un torneo lo veo inviable. Como simultáneas queda pintoresco.

Baard Dahl winner of the first official Chess & Poker tournament in history!

After the morning fun “Simultaneous Chess & Poker” event, things started getting serious for the chess/pokerplayers at the Villa Marina last night. In what was the first ever official chess and poker combination tournament to be held (and what is more, part of the official UKIPT schedule) the players were first going to battle it out during 5 rounds of blitz chess, before heading to the Royal Hall in order to switch to No Limit Hold’Em poker. The default stack for the poker tournament was 8000 chips, but every win in the chess portion was worth another 1000 chips, with a draw netting you 500 more chips.

This event attracted a total of 24 players, including the top 3 seeded players from the chess tournament (Michael Adams, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Laurent Fressinet), making that an incredible number of 10 grandmasters! The chess portion was dominated by Vachier-Lagrave and Fressinet, with both finishing on 4,5/5. Daniel Fridman, Mark Hebden and Radoslaw Jedynak followed them on 4/5, while Mickey Adams surprisingly only scored 3/5, as he lost to both Frenchmen (who will more than likely also be his main rivals in the “real” tournament).

After a welcome 30-minute break the players then moved to the magnificent Royal Hall, in which the main event of the UKIPT was still under way. By some coincidence GMs Adams, Vachier-Lagrave, Hebden, Williams and Gormally were all allocated to the same table, undoubtedly making this the highest rated poker table in history! The tables kicked off at around 9.30pm and with 15-minute levels and all players eager to make it into the top 5, it promised to be a long and eventful night.

Yours truly unfortunately had to leave at around 11pm, but I woke up to the great news that Mark Hebden had made it to the heads up, only losing out to PokerStars’ Baard Dahl, who also happens to be a very strong chessplayer and will be competing in the Masters group of the chess event. In case you missed my earlier report on the morning “Simultaneous Chess & Poker”, Baard had already been the only play to take a point off Jennifer Shahade in that event earlier in the day.

This makes Norway’s Baard Dahl the first winner of an official combined chess and poker event in history! Many congratulations!

Let’s hope this will have been the first event of this kind in a very long line, as the whole event was great fun to watch and thoroughly enjoyed by the players!

Earlier today, Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of the GlobalPokerIndex (GPI) and participant in the Chess & Poker tournament, updated his Facebook page with a status saying what a great experience yesterday’s event had been and how he would love to see such an event at the EPT (European Poker Tour). I can only second that!

Many thanks also to Jennifer Shahade, WGM and PokerStars Mind Sports Ambassador, for designing the format of this event and all her hard work in the run-up of making it all happen!
