El WSOP Player of the Year divide a las grandes figuras del poker

La lucha por el WSOP Player of the Year ha saltado de las mesas a las redes sociales. 

Phil Hellmuth, Shaun Deeb y Daniel Negreanu han protagonizado un intenso intercambio de opiniones sobre si el actual sistema de puntuación es realmente justo.

Hellmuth abrió el debate defendiendo que ningún jugador debería poder ganar el POY si termina las WSOP perdiendo dinero, aunque haya acumulado más puntos que nadie.

Deeb le respondió recordándole que el año pasado defendía un criterio completamente distinto y acusándolo de cambiar las reglas del juego cada temporada para criticarle.

Negreanu también entró en la conversación para defender el sistema actual. El canadiense argumentó que todas las competiciones anuales premian el volumen de participación, puso como ejemplo el tenis o el golf y recordó que las WSOP ya limitaron el número de resultados que puntúan precisamente para reducir esa ventaja. Además, considera que sería más injusto impedir que un jugador con varios brazaletes ganara el POY simplemente por haber perdido dinero en algunos high rollers.

Tras el revuelo generado, Hellmuth quiso rebajar el tono y dejó claro que su crítica no iba dirigida contra Deeb:

"Amo a Shaun. Él me ama. Pensé que todos lo sabían. Esto se trata del POY."
